Easy Origami Quilt

7 March 2013

Origami quilts fascinate me. Some look complex, but are simple to make.
Origami Quilt

I folded the origami quilts pictured using the exact same model and the same paper. The paper I used is red and gold wrapping paper from a gift I received during Christmas, and the white quilt above is simply the back of the gift wrap. Yes, I did use glue to secure the pieces of the quilt together.

It’s hard to see, but the wrapping paper is textured on both sides. On the white paper, I used gold ink to to highlight the textured bits and black ink to deepen the shadows. In origami, it’s okay to take some artistic liberties.

Go here to learn how to make this type of origami quilt. Experiment with different colors of paper. The next time I make this quilt, I plan to use the patterns inside security envelopes.
