The traditional art of paper (kami) folding (ori), origami began in ancient Japan during the 17th century AD (in the era of the Edo Dynasty). This art, however, did not become widely popular throughout Western cultures until the mid-1900s. Now considered a form of modern art, origami enthusiasts continue to strive to sculpt single pieces of paper without the use of glue or scissors. Traditional Japanese origami is less strict about some origami rules and sometimes employs the use of scissor or non-square paper.
I've been folding since December 2010. This blog is about my pursuit to challenge myself, expand my talents and share my origami experiences. I want to encourage you to not worry about being perfect or folding a model correctly on the first try. Use paper as a platform to take risks in your life one small step (or fold) at a time. Like life, paper is forgiving. If the paper rips, as mine often does, use a piece of tape to patch it up and keep going.
