Origami and Cirque du Soleil

20 January 2015

In September 2014, Cirque du Soleil made a short film with 10 quadcopters (small helicopters) inside lampshades. When I first saw the film, I totally didn’t care or even realize how the lamps floated around the air — I was mesmerized by the origami tessellations used to create some of the lamp shades. I don’t have any information about who made the origami lampshades or who designed the patters. If you do, please let me know in the comments.

If you click on the “Playlist” tab in the upper left corner of the video and select the second video, you’ll get a behind-the-scene look at how the creators used the quadcopters.
